In your first major assignment of the year, you will take on an ambitious task of making more sense of the reasons and motivations that we choose to photograph the world around us. Through completion of each challenge in this assignment and through each successful image your capture, you will hopefully begin to develop a more critical and focused understanding of what makes a great photograph and why we endeavour to make these photographs happen!
Assignment GENERAL CRITERIA:
What will I be graded on? 1. In each photograph your goal is to capture the given REASON as well as demonstrate intentional and effective use of 1 or all of the FSR's: Filling the Frame Seeing the Light Removing the clutter
2. You will also be graded on your proper posting, titling, tagging and organizing of your photographs on flickr.com
ASSIGNMENT SPECIFIC CRITERIA:
Challenge # 1: Aesthetic Name of Set on Flickr: AESTHETIC tag: cwoodphoto_aesthetic Criteria: Experiment, plan and capture photographs that demonstrate an appreciation and celebration of the aesthetic and beauty of various objects:
Requirements for Photographs: Total # of Photographs needed: 10
1. Nature(flowers, blades of grass, trees, plants etc) ( 2 Photos required) 2. Old Cameras( 4 Photos required) 3. Fruit Slices and other translucent objects on light tables ( 4 Photos required)
Extension Homework Assignment: Find something that is not traditionally beautiful or nice to look at it and photograph in a way that makes it aesthetically pleasing( i.e. A junkyard, an old coffee mug, a rusty nail etc.)
Challenge # 2: Original Content Name of Set on Flickr: ORIGINAL CONTENT tag: cwoodphoto_originalcontent Criteria: Experiment, plan and capture photographs that demonstrate an appreciation and celebration of creating photographs of typical things/subjects, but shot in an interesting non-typical way.
Requirements for Photographs Total # of Photographs needed: 5
You must shoot at least 2 photographs from each of these 2 subjects:
1. Shadows- Look for interesting interactions that can happen between cast shadows. Look for various subjects and objects that cast shadows as well as various surfaces to find the shadows cast upon. 2. Exclusion of subject?-Taking photos of a subject performing an action with their hands with the majority of the human left out of the image.

Extension/Homework: 1. Selfies-time to reinvent this tired genre. Find a way to take an interesting selfie that people might actually find interesting.
