BIG IDEA: Using your aperture setting on the SLR camera to explore depth of field, effective use of light and continuing to think creatively on how to compose a compelling photograph
TIMELINE:
SHOOTING TIME: TODAY EDITING TIME: 1 CLASS CLASS CRITIQUE: 1-2 CLASSES
MATERIALS NEEDED:
PROVIDED BY THE TEACHER: CAMERAS, LENSES, PUMPKINS/GOURDS, SOME LIGHTING MATERIALS PROVIDED BY STUDENT: ANY OTHER ITEMS THAT COULD WORK FOR AN AUTUMN THEMED ASSIGNMENT( CLOTHING, FOOD, OTHER ITEMS/OBJECTS) CRITERIA:
Must incorporate Fall/Autumn objects into all of the shots. e.g. leaves, pumpkins/gourds, other items you bring from home etc.
Ability to create a SHALLOW Depth of field (DOF) in your shots
ability to use DOF to emphasize certain aspects of the photograph to create a FOCAL POINT
Ability to use NATURAL LIGHT and other creative light sources(headlights, phone lights, reflected light….anything but fluorescent school light(it should really be avoided at all costs) and the colours of AUTUMN to create a feeling of the FALL season in your photographs
What are some of the CREATIVE DEVICES you can use in your shot that would be effective in this assignment? see CREATIVE DEVICES HANDOUT. You need to involve at least one CREATIVE DEVICE in each photograph you take for this assignment
Think about interesting Points of View(POV) that you could use in this assignment aside from the standard eye level photos. Get down and dirty, it’s not raining….yet!
You will need to submit 5-10 photographs for this assignment. Again, QUALITY over QUANTITY.
