PHOTOGRAPHING AND PREPARING YOUR DRAWINGS FOR ILLUSTRATOR
INSTRUCTION FOR TAKING PHOTOS OF INKED GRAPHIC DESIGNS:
1.
Make sure you are using one of the Canon 6D cameras(look on the front of the camera)
2.
Make sure you are in the CLAY ROOM and using window light to shoot.
3.
The drawing is laying on one the blue chairs. This will allow you to shoot from above.
4.
Make sure the camera is set to Auto Focus (AF/MF switch is on the lens)
5.
Zoom in so that there is nothing outside of the paper(ie. Chair, floor, your feet etc.)
6.
Set the dial to M(manual)
7.
Use the following Settings to take the Photograph:
ISO
: 1000
SHUTTER SPEED:
1/250
F STOP:
F4.0
If the shot is too dark. You can turn the ISO up to 1250 or 1600.
If the Shot is too light. You can turn the ISO down to 800 or less.
HOW TO EDIT PHOTOS FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN INKED DRAWINGS:
Importing to Adobe Lightroom:
1.
Insert Your SD card into the card slot on the front of the School laptop
2.
A dialog box will pop up in lightroom
3.
On the left side you will see
FROM
: It should be SD card or D/:: Canon or something similar
4.
In the middle of this dialog box you will see 3 words: move, copy and add
5.
Make sure you have COPY selected
6.
On the right side you will see
TO:
7.
This is SUPER IMPORTANT. Make sure that the destination is the THAWSPACE(#) that you have been assigned for the course from me.
8.
Select that THAWSPACE
9.
On the right side there is a drop down menu that says ORGANIZE. Make sure it is selected INTO ONE FOLDER.
10.
CLICK IMPORT
11.
Lightroom will now take some completing the task of importing. You can see the progress bar in the top left of the interface.
Editing the Photo in Develop mode:
1.
Click on the DEVELOP module at the top of the interface
2.
You now have several choices for making changes to your photograph
3.
First, we are going to crop the image. Click “R” on your keyboard. This brings up the crop tool
4.
Crop the image so that only white paper is left around your design with no other elements
5.
Now, let’s make the drawing as clean and high contrast as possible.
6.
Bring the BLACKS slider to the left until your inking looks bolder
7.
Bring the WHITES slider to the right until your paper starts to look whiter but not so white that you are losing detail in your ink
8.
That should do it!
9.
Right click on the photo in the filmstrip and choose export from the menu
10.
Click export and you will be brought to a dialog box.
11.
For location choose your THAWSPACE on the hard drive.
12.
Scroll down to IMAGE SIZING and make sure it is set to 300 for resolution.
13.
Click EXPORT.
14.
You now have your inked ready to be traced in Illustrator!
