You have travelled a great distance with your camera, lens and critical eye since you first arrived in September. You have come a great distance in your quest to master manual photography, but are you willing to go a little further?
During the month of April, in your final “Assigned” camera project you will be taking on a variety of photographic challenges which will test your abilities and allow you to master some of the key areas we have focused on this year including:
use of aperture to create depth of field
using shutter speed to slow and freeze movement
using light to illuminate selective parts of your subject and setting
using off camera flash to create light where there was none before
thinking about the principles of design( contrast, rule of third, repetition, movement, unity etc.) and applying them in your photography
Editing through Lightroom and/or Photoshop
The added twist is that all of the challenges will be related to cinema and film:
Cindy Sherman Film Stills: In this challenge you will need to explore your knowledge of movies and cinematography. Your job is NOT to recreate an actual film still but to create a fictitious film still. Look at the work of Cindy sherman and other examples to get an idea.
Things to consider before starting:
-is it possible to shoot at school? -Who will I use to get portray the “actors” in my shot? Will I need to shoot outside of regular class time to get the right person?
CINEMATOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT # 2- Close up Film Promo (in conjunction with Graphic Design 11/12)
In this challenge you will be looking at Film Posters and trying to create to super sharp, closeup of "main character" of a ficitional movie that has a futuristic/action/suspense look to it.
Criteria to get this shot:
Use of Flash to get perfect lighting
Cropping to get just the right amount of the subjects face/clothing/hair etc.)
EDITING PROCESS IN LIGHTROOM AND MOVIE MAKER-google .doc
-using the continuous shutter drive mode on the camera, you are to create a short “film” told through multiple separate frames. You will need to set it to music and it must be black and white...
Your film must contain the following elements
their must be an exploration of how animation can create illusions especially with how subjects move(see above examples for examples of movement)
